What is a mullet bike?
Mullet bike refers to those bikes use different size of wheels for front and rear wheels. The most common combination is a 29er wheel at the front and a 27.5er(650b) wheel at the back.
What’s the pros of mullet bike?
The larger diameter 29er wheel at the front provides faster rolling speed, easier obstacle roll-over, as well as more grip from larger contact patch. The bigger wheel at the front makes the head tube angle slacker which reduces rolling resistance and speed you up.
The smaller diameter 27.5er (650b) wheel at the rear provides better controllability. 650b rear wheel offers more clearance, lower the bottom bracket height, shorten the effective length of bike.
Mullet bikes bring you faster speed as a 29er bike as well as great controllability as a 650b bike.
