With no shortage of carbon bike MTB rims in the market, ProX has launched unique undulating 29er MTB XC rim. As the name suggests, such carbon mountain rim is with varying depth. For example, measured from spoke hole area, it is with 22mm depth and in between it raises to 25mm. This rim waves up and down 3mm for better aero performance.
At present, our undulating mtb carbon rim is only available in 29er and conventional 28 spoke holes, designed for XC riding use. The rim is specific reinforced to each spoke hole drilling in the deeper area to increase rim strength and stiffness as well.
The 30mm inner width is optimised for wider 29*2.25''-2.5'' tire. The rim is with hookless design and is tubeless ready. Tubeless tires can make a good performance at lower tire pressure for reduced rolling resistance and contribute to all out speed.
UAD935-XC carbon rim is made from Toray T700 carbon fiber which is the basis to make high strength mtb carbon rims. The max rider weight limit is 120kg/265lb.
UAD935GP-XC carbon rim is made from premium Toray T700+T800+Graphene pre-preg to achieve super lightweight, which is more suitable for lighter weight XC riders (max weight limit 100kg/220lb).
Asymmetric design helps to make wheelset with more even spoke tension between drive side and non-drive side. On the one hand, it makes wheelset stiffer since the spoke tension on non-drive side can be higher (than regular carbon wheels built with symmetric rims). On the other hand, the closer spoke tension between two sides make the wheelset more difficult to get loose after long time of use, which means less maintenance is needed.
Thus, our MTB carbon rims are light weight, but still strong and durable.
ProX decal/logo is offered for free. The decal will be applied on the rim and do the matte or glossy finish according to customers' preference. You can choose either with ProX decal or simply without decal (UD black matte or UD black glossy finish).

ERD*
Effective Rim Diameter (ERD) is the maximum distance that spokes need to bridge going from one end of the rim to another. How do we calculate the ERD of our rims? The corresponding equation and a drawing is as shown:
ERD=OD-(rim depth)*2+(rim thickness)*2
For example：
ERD of UAD935-XC rim=633mm-25mm*2+3mm*2=589mm
Most people prefer ERD including the length of the nipple cap. However, customers may use different nipples and components for building. Please add the height of the nipple cap(2.5mm~3mm generally) for your spoke calculation. If the height of the nipple cap is 3mm, then ERD of your UAD935-XC rim is 589mm+3mm*2=595mm

Light Weight Graphene filling Toray T700 + T800 carbon prepreg are well combined in our lay-up structure design, to create light weight carbon bike rims. Excessive materials are eliminated to save weight, while extra materials are added around spoke hole for reinforcement. So, light weight is achieved without compromise in strength or stiffness. |

Asymmetric Design
Asymmetric design mtb rims help to make wheelset with more even spoke tension between drive side and non-drive side. Carbon mtb wheels built with asymmetric rims are of better stiffness and stability. The spoke tension on such wheelset will not get loose easily, lower frequency for re-truing is needed.

Hookless Design Compared to bead hook rims, the sidewalls of hookless rims are thicker and stronger, providing better impact resistance. Straight bead provides more stance for tire. Tires will not be squeezed in bead as it was, which makes it less "light bulb effect". Thus, the tire/rim engagement is more stable, more difficult to be blown out under strong impact, which is important for carbon mtb rims.

Tubeless Ready
Tubeless tire has been the mainstream of mountain bike carbon wheels thanks to its better traction, lower rolling resistance and better riding comfort. All our carbon clincher rims are tubeless ready (also fit normal tube tires). Optimized anti-burp bump design provides easy tire mounting, dismounting, as well as air inflation. |
